“When I was a kid, I borrowed audio books from the library and listened to them while completing my Sovereign Hill cross-stitch. YES I WAS A NERD. WHAT OF IT?

Audio books have come a long way. No more 'please change the cassette' requests, and people like Johnny Depp and Kate Winslet read the words, so you feel like you’re up close and personal with the famouses.

Audible has one of those subscription services that rolls over monthly unless you cancel, which I'm never really down with. But it is good value, and if you do end up cancelling you keep the books you’ve already paid for.

We’ve cracked through most of Enid Blyton’s stuff over a bunch of long car and plane trips (disappointingly, they’ve changed Dick and Fanny’s names) - the kid loves it and it’s better than nursery rhymes.”
